Answer: The name referred to is Freddy.

The Note Taker: "Oh, shut up, shut up. Do I look like a policeman?"

Answer: She thinks the Note Taker is a policeman collecting evidence against her.

(b) Who is the Note Taker? (1)

Answer: The Note Taker is Professor Henry Higgins, an expert in phonetics.

(c) Why does the Flower Girl mistake Higgins for a policeman? (2)

Answer: Higgins writes down everything she says in his notebook. Seeing this, Eliza fears that he is collecting evidence to accuse her of some offence.>

Answer: The Gentleman is Colonel Pickering.

Answer: He has come from India to meet Professor Henry Higgins.

(c) Why is the meeting between Higgins and Pickering significant? (2)

Answer: Both are experts in phonetics and have admired each other's work. Their meeting leads to the famous experiment of transforming Eliza Doolittle into a refined lady.>
